MENDOTA - The employees of Mendota High School became a bronze level Campaign-Launching Sponsor of The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Upper Illinois Valley “March To A Million” campaign.

Employees who chose to participate in the breast cancer awareness month “Dress Down For The Cure” event on Oct. 12 donned cancer-awareness or Relay For Life clothing and blue jeans and made contributions totaling $500.

Tammy Guerrero, social worker at Mendota High School and member of Relay For Life of Upper Illinois Valley team “Breast Friends,” said it has been a privilege to be a part of Relay for Life of Upper Illinois Valley since its inception. “I have loved being able to promote the comradery and support that comes from the Relay event,” she commented. “Lifelong friendships and immense bonds of support are created. I am not surprised at all by the generosity of our staff. They are an amazing group of people and it's a pleasure to be a part of the MHS faculty and staff.”

Mitch Landgraf, chairperson of the March To A Million campaign and a counselor at Mendota High School, also expressed appreciation and issued a friendly challenge to educators and support staff at other schools in the upper Illinois Valley. “I call to our colleagues of the Earlville, Peru, Dimmick, LaSalle, Ottawa and LaMoille area public and private schools to march toward a million as well by forming a Relay For Life of Upper Illinois Valley campout and fundraising team, or by organizing your own awareness and fundraising activity to benefit the March To A Million.”

The campaign aims to break a cumulative total of $1 million raised by the 10th anniversary event in July of 2019. More information is available at www.1mil.org.
