BRISTOL - Thomas E. Klatt, 79, of Bristol passed away surrounded by his loving family on Dec. 7, 2018 at Edwards Hospital in Naperville.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Trinity Church United Methodist, 2505 Boomer Lane, Yorkville with Pastor Michael Stoner officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bristol. Visitation will be from 3 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge St., Yorkville.

Thomas was born Aug. 5, 1939 in Sandwich to Herbert E. and Frances (McInturf) Klatt. He married Karen Burns on Nov. 5, 1965 and they spent the next 53 happy years together.

Survivors include his wife of Bristol; two children, Shawna (Brian) Watkins of Yorkville and Thomas E. (Jennifer) Klatt II of Plano; four grandchildren, Evelyn and Mary Watkins, and Nathan and Brody Klatt; three brothers, Robert (Donnalee) Klatt of DeKalb, Gerald (Barbara) Klatt of Mendota and Terry (Susan) Klatt of Bolingbrook; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Klatt; and one sister, Mary Ann Ackley.

Thomas proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a longtime member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Yorkville. He served as a Bristol Township Trustee since 1991, was a former board member of several banks and was currently on the board of trustees at Pioneer Bank. He was the owner and operator of Today Cartage in Plano and the Bechstein-Klatt Excavating Company in Tinley Park. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Everyone knew Tom as a smart, successful businessman whose door was always open. It would take a whole page to list all of the people that he knew and cared for throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Trinity Church United Methodist Building Fund.
