EARLVILLE - Theodore K. “Ted” Fritz, 87, of Earlville, formerly of Mendota, passed away Dec. 10, 2018 at Heritage Health in Mendota.

Graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

Ted was born Jan. 20, 1931 in rural Mendota to Garfield and Mabel (Engel) Fritz. He married Ardith Spenader on June 12, 1955 in Mendota. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, Craig (Linda) Fritz of Bloomington, Mark (Sina) Fritz of Millbrook and Christopher Fritz of Earlville; four grandchildren, Lisa Christianer, Beth Fritz, Dana (Jim) Cartwright and Scott Fritz; and one sister, Dorothea Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers, Garfield Fritz, Jr. and Russell Fritz.

Ted attended grade school in a country school north of Peru and then graduated from Mendota High School in 1949. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.

He worked at Classon Grocery Store in Mendota for 16 years, then bought Earlville Supermarket in 1970, which became One Stop Foods and later Ted’s Red Fox. He retired and sold the store in 2005. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, the Earlville Lions Club, Mendota Elk’s Lodge, Mendota Moose Lodge, and was a former member of Mendota Rotary Club. He was an avid bicyclist.
