The Grand Village of the Illinois Indians discussed

PRINCETON – The Bureau County Genealogical Society will host Mark Walczynski on Thursday, Aug. 23. His topic will be “The Grand Village of the Illinois Indians.”

Walczynski is an author on the topic of Franco-Native American history of the Starved Rock area of the Illinois Country and western Great Lakes region during the seventeenth century.

He is a published author, researcher, and educator in journals such as The Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society, Le Journal, and the Journal of Michigan’s French-Canadian Heritage Society. He is retired from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and has taught history, philosophy, and criminal justice courses at Illinois Valley Community College. He is currently Starved Rock State Park historian.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Come hear about the Native Americans whose village was about a mile upstream from Starved Rock and historical events that happened at that location.
