Sublette Village Board addresses concerns about garbage pick-up

SUBLETTE — The Sublette Village Board addressed some old business and concerns about garbage pick-up during its monthly meeting on Sept. 11. All were village trustees were present at the Ellice Dinges Center.

Sublette Village President Michael Vaessen told the board that the company the village had contracted with to remove trees in the park will no longer be able to do the job. He added that he spoke with Chris Leffelman with the Sublette Parks Board about having the park board or volunteers take down the trees. The village then would use the money they would have spent removing the trees to purchase more trees for the park. Vaessen asked the property committee to meet with Leffelman and come up with a plan.

In other old business, no committee meeting was held, so there was no update on the street work.

Don Dinges reported that the village took first place in the Friendship Division of the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival and presented the board with the trophy.

In new business, Vaessen said he has been getting complaints about garbage pick-up. He reported that Republic has bought out Illinois Valley Waste, the company the village currently has a contract with. But, he said, Republic is honoring the contract the village made with Illinois Valley Waste. Vaessen added that the representative from the company the village was working with will change. Vaessen said the new representative from Republic told him that the residents would be receiving a letter addressing what they will or won’t pick up. He added that if there are more questions, the representative said he would come down to a village meeting and address the issues.

Former village trustee Bob Bulfer told the board that a recliner is not garbage, and that some of these problems boil down to common sense.

Discussion included that the contract says they will pick up three containers for every resident, and if more are left, only three will be picked up.

The next village board meeting will be held at 7 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 16, in the Ellice Dinges Center.
