Sublette board to raise Ellice Dinges Center rental rate

SUBLETTE — The Village of Sublette Board of Trustees took a look at some of the fees for services that the village was charging and decided to implement an increase.

The Sublette Village Board met in regular session on Nov. 12 at the Ellice Dinges Center. Sublette Village President Michael Vaessen, Sublette Village Clerk Brenda Vaessen, and Sublette Village Trustee Laura Jackson were absent. Sublette Village Trustee Julie Kessel led the meeting.

Sublette Village Trustee Scott Hanson said that the finance committee had met on Nov. 1 and discussed the upcoming levy amount, the changing of what the village charges for snow removal, renting the Ellice Dinges Center and mowing the elevator property.

The board did not entertain a vote on raising the snow removal charge from $7 to $14 per occurrence, instead, they tabled it until the December meeting. During discussion, Sublette Village Trustees Jerry Leffelman, Richard Klaser and Kessel were not in favor of raising the price to $14.

The board did approve a motion to raise the rental rate of the Ellice Dinges Center for Sublette residents from $50 per event to $75 per event. This increase will take effect on Jan. 1, 2019. The out-of-town rental rate will remain the same. Klaser was the lone vote against the proposal.

The board was split on a motion to increase the cost from $50 to $100 for mowing the Sublette Elevator property. Against the motion were Klaser and Leffelman, and voting for were Hanson and Sublette Village Trustee Brian Wilson. Kessel was the tie-breaker vote and she voted to approve the increase. Klaser said the reason he voted against it was because he thought the amount should be larger than $100. Leffelman said he thought they could mow the property themselves.

The board also approved the levy to be posted at the amount of $15,363, which is the same as last year. The board approved this motion 3-1, with Klaser being the lone vote against. Klaser said he thought the levy should be increased and that is why he voted no.

Petitions for Village Board

Petitions are available for the three open, four-year term Sublette Village Board positions in the April 2019 election. The positions held by Klaser, Leffelman and Hanson will be up for re-election. The filing period for the petitions is Dec. 10-17.

The next Sublette Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, at the Ellice Dinges Center.
