Stillman Valley raced out to double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back in handing Mendota a 58-30 loss in a Big Northern Conference varsity boys’ basketball game on Feb. 8 at Stillman Valley.
The Cardinals pumped in 20 first-quarter points while Mendota only managed six. Stillman Valley doubled the score at halftime, 32-16.
Emiliano Arteaga had eight points to lead the Trojans, who fell to 0-7 in league games. Joel Figueroa and Austin Robinson checked in with six points apiece.

The Trojans battled South Beloit in the Freeport Aquin Shootout and the Sobos rallied for a 47-44 victory on Feb. 9.
Mendota (3-22) held leads at the end of the first three quarters, including 37-30 heading to the fourth, but South Beloit knocked down three three-pointers in the fourth frame to help it pull out the win.
Arteaga topped the scoring column with 13 points, while Joel Escatel and Chris Sandoval each added nine markers.
