PERU - Illinois State Treasurer, Michael Frerichs will give an update on activities and programs within the treasurer’s office at the Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development’s (IVAC) next Business Breakfast Seminar. The event will take place at 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Mario’s Maples in Peru. The public is welcome.

The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office is dedicated to protecting the state’s portfolio, ensuring the liquidity of all investments, and consistently producing earnings at or above industry standards. Investment decisions promote education, access, and opportunity for individuals and governmental bodies across our state to give families the tools to achieve. The treasurer’s office is committed to fulfilling this mission in a highly professional and ethical manner, while striving for transparency, efficiency and preservation of public trust.

Frerichs was elected Illinois State Treasurer in November 2014. In Illinois, the treasurer’s office predates the state’s incorporation in 1818. Voters in 1848 chose to make it an elected office and Frerichs is the 74th person to serve in this role.

In Illinois, the treasurer is the state’s Chief Investment Officer and Frerichs is a Certified Public Finance Officer. The office invests money on behalf of the state and local units of government. Frerichs also believes in providing individuals with the tools that will enable them to invest in themselves. This is done by encouraging savings plans for college and trade school, increasing financial education among all ages, removing barriers to a secure retirement, and protecting residents from predatory companies.

Registration for the seminar is $16 for members and $18 for non-members. A hot breakfast buffet will be served at 7:15 a.m. Reservations must be made by calling (815) 223-0227 no later than noon on Tuesday, Jan. 9. The breakfast is open to the public.
