MENDOTA – Exciting things are on the horizon for Starved Rock Wood Products.
The Mendota company, which has locations at 1605 Division St. and on Washington Street in the former RR Donnelly building, is planning on adding even more to its operation.
Peter Limberger, owner/investor, and Keith Miller, chief executive officer, have announced that SRWP will expand its facilities and add more jobs in the coming years.
Limberger noted that SRWP has expansion plans to build a 25,000-square foot modern showroom for all of the products the company produces and also a larger warehouse at its Washington Street location. The two-story showroom would sit on the site of the former McDonald’s restaurant and the warehouse would be to the west of the existing building.
With that, the company is expected to add 50-80 jobs in the next two years, which is on top of the approximately 100 additional employees it has added in the last two years. With more employees, SRWP could possibly add second and third shifts to its operation.
Limberger likened the planned showroom to the Good’s Furniture business in Kewanee, in that SRWP hopes to attract people from all over the Midwest to Mendota.
“We would like to be a place for people to come to Mendota for kitchen cabinets and furniture,” he said. “We hope it will attract a lot of people and make Mendota a destination.”
Limberger said he is happy about the support SRWP has had from the city of Mendota in getting the modern and highly-automated manufacturing facility on Washington Street built in the past two and a half years. He is also proud of the company’s apprenticeship program in cooperation with IVCC and the Department of Labor for young people directly from high school. And, he is looking forward to working with the city in the company’s upcoming endeavors.
In addition to the two Mendota locations, SRWP employs about a dozen people at a facility in Madison, Wis., and has the Starved Rock Cabinetry showroom at The Design Center at Abt in Glenview.
