Starved Rock Lodge Donates $3,200 to breast cancer research

UTICA - A total of over $3,200 was raised this fall to help find a cure for breast cancer. A check for $1,980 was recently presented by Starved Rock Lodge & Conference Center to Relay for Life (American Cancer Society) and a check for $1,280 was presented to the Illinois Valley Pink Ribbon Club affiliated with Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

The funds were raised mainly from the Lodge’s annual “Hike for a Cure” event held at Starved Rock Lodge and State Park on Sunday, Oct. 6. Participants made a donation and hiked to the top of Starved Rock in support of a cure for breast cancer. On the night before “Hike for a Cure,” the Lodge co-hosted a pre-party with Tito’s Vodka in the Back Door Lounge. Both of these events included raffle prizes and a silent auction. Throughout the month of October, Lodge employees were allowed to wear jeans every Friday with a $2 donation, as part of the “Jeans for a Cause” program. The date for the next annual “Hike for a Cure” has been set for Oct. 4, 2020. “We would like to thank everyone who participated in our hike or donated items to our raffle,” said Lodge CEO Amy Trimble, “It is our hope that this fundraiser will continue to help the fight for a cure.”
