LA SALLE - An Illinois Valley man who made it big on Broadway is returning to share his talents with the area in a special, one-night-only concert. “Married to Broadway” stars the “Sharpe Family Singers,” featuring Broadway leading man Ron Sharpe, originally of Oglesby, his wife Barbra Russell, a Broadway leading lady in her own right, and three of their talented adult children.
Ron and Barbra met when they played the romantic leads of Marius and Cosette in “Les Miserables.” Being married on stage hundreds of times led to them being married in real life. Broadway played a large role in bringing the wonderfully talented couple together, so not only are they married to each other, but to Broadway as well.
Ron is the only actor to have played both male leads of “Marius” and “Jean Valjean” in Les Miserables on Broadway. His other Broadway credits include featured roles in the original productions of “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” “The Civil War,” Disney’s “King David” and “Titanic.” As for Barbra, in addition to performing the lead role of Cosette, her theatrical credits include leads in “The Little Shop of Horrors,” “Oklahoma,” “Side by Side by Sondheim,” “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” and “The Fantasticks.”
In “Married to Broadway,” Ron, Barbra and their children share their love affair with the music of the Great White Way, performing show-stopping numbers that are audience favorites around the world – from Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Evita, and West Side Story, to Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof, and of course, Les Miz.
“Married to Broadway” will have one performance only on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at La Salle-Peru Township High School’s Mattheissen Auditorium. Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased by visiting the Stage 212 box office at 700 First St., La Salle, Monday 4-6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.–noon or by calling (815) 224-3025 during the same hours.
