Stage 212 presents “At Last – Cunio Sings Etta”

LA SALLE - Stage 212 has announced a very special concert coming soon to the Illinois Valley. Popular stage performer and recording artist Michael Cunio will return to the theater in “At Last – Cunio Sings Etta” on Saturday, July 1 at 7:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Stage 212.

With “At Last,” Cunio returns to the song that launched his career and to the artist who has been his most enduring inspiration. Backed by a world class sextet, together they breathe new life into the music of icon Etta James, exploring songs from a career that spanned nearly 60 years. “At Last” features hits including “All I Could Do Was Cry,” “I’d Rather Go Blind,” “Tell Mama,” “At Last,” “A Sunday Kind Of Love” and many, many more.

Described as the “spawn of Freddie Mercury & Janis Joplin,” Cunio gained attention for his “extraordinary” performance of Etta James’ hit “At Last” in the nationally televised PBS concert “Under The Streetlamp, Live!” for which he was deemed the “electrifying wailer.” With UTS he filmed two national PBS concert specials, released three albums and toured the world headlining venues including the Greek Theater & Wolf Trap.

In 2015 Cunio’s solo album Back Alley Soul, an ode to the grit, grease and crackle of classic soul from the 60s and 70s, debuted at #6 on iTunes R&B/Soul charts. Previously, Cunio starred on Broadway as Corny Collins in Hairspray, Tommy DeVito in the Chicago production of Jersey Boys, sang on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Access Hollywood, Extra and has performed with artists including Debbie Harry, Adam Lambert, Serj Tankian, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Darlene Love. He currently plays nearly 150 live shows a year at venues including the Gramercy Theater, Brooklyn Bowl and Duane Park.
