Mendota won the first set over Rockford Christian, 25-20, but dropped the next two, 16-25, 24-26, to lose the match, in Big Northern Conference volleyball action on Sept. 26 at Rockford.
Abby Phalen provided 11 kills, while Myah Boelk and Jaelyn Fitzgerald added seven kills apiece for the Spikers. Other top contributors for Mendota were Reiss Buettner with 13 assists and nine digs, Larkin O’Donnell with eight service points and eight digs, and Ella Massey with 11 assists and eight service points.

The struggles continued for the Spikers when they were beaten by Winnebago, 25-17, 25-21, in a BNC match on Sept. 28 at the MHS gym.
Fitzgerald had a big night at the net, recording six kills and three blocks. Phalen added four blocks, including three solo, and she also contributed nine digs, as did Alex Barrera. Buettner and Massey shared the team lead with seven assists apiece, while Boelk led with eight service points and Peyton Baird provided three blocks.
Mendota fell to 3-18-2 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
