MENDOTA – Mendota posted a 4-0-1 record and won the championship of the Mendota Varsity Rally Tournament on Oct. 13.
The Spikers opened with a 25-22, 25-11 win over Ottawa. Leading the attack were Myah Boelk with seven kills and four digs, Ella Massey with 16 assists, and Jenna O’Donnell with seven service points and four digs.
Mendota and Bureau Valley tied, with the Spikers winning 25-17 and BV winning 25-12. Peyton Baird topped the team with nine kills, Massey collected 20 assists, Abby Phalen had seven service points and six digs, and Larkin O’Donnell also had six digs.
Putnam County was no match for the Spikers, 25-16, 25-12, in the final match of pool play. Baird picked up nine kills, Massey had 23 assists, Jenna O’Donnell recorded eight service points, Larkin O’Donnell had nine digs and Jaelyn Fitzgerald put up three blocks.
Mendota needed three sets to defeat Princeton, 25-22, 15-25, 25-22. The Spikers’ kill attack was led by Phalen (11), Boelk (11) and Baird (10). Massey sparked the offense with 33 assists, Phalen had 11 service points and Larkin O’Donnell supplied 15 digs.
The Spikers (25-5-1) won the championship match over Lexington, 25-18, 25-22.
