Survivors include two sons, Edwin and Daryl (Cheryl) Hoffman of Columbus; an only daughter, Tonja (Ronald) Zenk of Juneau, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Kelli and Scott Hoffman, Jackie (Jamie) Price, Kasey (Steve) Bader, Jamie (fiancé Eric Weigen) Knudson, and Robert (Jenna), John, Andrew and Alyssa Zenk; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Lois) Jornlin of Earlville; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley graduated from Earlville High School in 1958. She and Howard farmed in the Earlville and surrounding area for several years and she enjoyed being a nurses’ aide at the hospital in Sandwich before moving to Columbus, Wis. in 1969. She truly enjoyed her employment as a bus driver for almost 40 years with Columbus Transport and Riteway Bus Services where she was still employed. Although she enjoyed playing softball early on, her true love over the last 50 years was bowling. She enjoyed traveling to and competing in many WIBC/USBC National Bowling Tournaments all over the lower 48 states, as well as participating in many local and state tournaments. She served as president and secretary/treasurer for many years for various bowling leagues, associations and clubs, at both the local and state level, and was a coach for the junior bowling program. She also wrote the “Gutter Gussie Gossips Column” for the local newspaper highlighting weekly league scores and bowler achievements. For her extensive involvement with bowling, Shirley was also awarded the prestigious Women of Distinction Award. She was active in the community and volunteered countless hours over the years. She served on the Greater Columbus Recreation Committee conducting numerous fundraisers for the new aquatic center and also served on the 4th of July Committee to raise funds and plan the annual community event. Shirley truly loved life and friends but most of all her family.
