MENDOTA - Sherry L. Volkert, 71, of Mendota, passed away Sept. 3, 2021 at Heritage Health, Mendota.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. David Jungnickel officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at the funeral home.

Sherry was born Jan. 20, 1950 in Dodge City, Kan. to Howard and Donna (Taylor) Demoret. She married Russ Volkert on Oct. 31, 1970 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mendota where she was a member. Last year they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Survivors include her parents; her husband; one son, Tim (Penny) Volkert; two daughters, Kelly Gomez and Kim (Dan) Truckenbrod; 11 grandchildren, Luke Volkert, Alexis and Aidan Gomez, Lexi, Libbie, Knowlton and Gabe Wamhoff and Anthony, Quinton, Kylynn and Amelia Truckenbrod; and one great-grandson, Landry Jilderda.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lauren Volkert.

Sherry graduated from Mendota Township High School in 1968. After raising her children, she became a real estate agent for the Town & Country Agency. She will be remembered as a caring and thoughtful person who always put everyone’s wishes ahead of her own desires. Nothing meant more to Sherry than her family, especially her grandchildren who meant the world to her; they were her everything. She did her best to attend any event in which her grandchildren were participating. She was also a fan of warm weather, the hotter the better. It was no secret the deep love Sherry had for her husband. She and Russ made many memories while boating with their family and on numerous family vacations. Holidays and birthdays were especially important to her and she insisted on hosting these special events in her home, which was her happy place.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established in Sherry’s honor.
