Share local history, become a volunteer docent

MENDOTA - The Mendota Museum & Historical Society is looking for docents. If you are passionate about Mendota’s history and would like to help share that history, you will enjoy being a volunteer docent.

MMHS will hold two volunteer docent inquiry sessions. Anyone interested in learning more is invited to attend either session. The first will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Hume-Carnegie Museum and the second will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Union Depot Railroad Museum. Come see what Mendota’s museums are about. Ask questions, look around and see if you might be able to help out.

The museum is looking for people who have a love of history and are comfortable sharing with small groups. Volunteer docents will be fully trained to show visitors around the museum and share with them our community history. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and learn about Mendota and the surrounding communities.

Anyone who cannot come on those dates but would like more information on becoming a volunteer docent, please call (815) 539-3373, stop in at the Hume-Carnegie Museum, 901 Washington St., or e-mail them at [email protected] Their office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The Hume-Carnegie Museum is open to visitors Saturdays and Sundays from 1–4 p.m. The Union Depot Museum is open noon–4 p.m.
