MENDOTA - A new addition has been added to the Healing Paws team at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center in Mendota. Shadow, a specially trained therapy dog, will visit the hospital to bring comfort to patients by reducing stress, anxiety, pain and blood pressure, while increasing patient social interaction and communication. He will be accompanied by his owner, Lori Safranek.
Shadow, a 6-year old black Cockapoo (mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle), is very friendly, easy to get close to and will lift the spirits of any patient. Cockapoos are known as adorable, small dogs with the personality of a clown.
OSF Saint Paul Medical Center President Jennifer Junis emphasized that a visit from a therapy dog can make a patient’s day. “I have witnessed the joy that our dogs bring to our patients and their families,” she noted.
