OREGON – Mendota rallied in the second half to post a 4-2 triumph over Oregon in varsity boys’ conference soccer action on Sept. 3 at Oregon.
The home team took a 2-0 lead before the Trojans got on the board to make it 2-1 at halftime. Mendota did all of the scoring in the second half, tallying three times to pull out the victory.
Yahir Diaz booted home a pair of goals for Mendota, while Emiliano Arteaga and Ivan Figueroa added one goal apiece. Arteaga and Figueroa each had a pair of assists.
Manny Trejo was the MHS goaltender and he had 16 saves.
“The boys recovered well after coming out flat,” said Mendota coach Nick Myers. “We made some adjustments at halftime and the boys stepped up and kept better possession of the ball, forcing Oregon to chase and get tired.”
The Trojans improved to 5-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big Northern.
Mendota’s junior varsity squad was a 3-0 winner with Eli Arjes scoring two goals and Johnathan Cortez adding the other.
