TANGENT, Ore. - Ruth Leila (Setchell) Heagy, 101, formerly of Mendota, passed on to be with the Lord on Nov. 6, 2019 in Tangent, Ore.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Peace Fellowship, 34144 Plainview Drive, Shedd, Ore.

Ruth was born Oct. 20, 1918 in Mendota, the firstborn of Clifford M. and Ethel (Stone) Setchell. She married William “Bill” Carlton Heagy on June 27, 1937 at the Methodist Church in Mendota. He preceded her in death in 1976.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Charles Heagy of Tangent, Ore. and William Clifford Heagy of Eagle River, Alaska; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and her younger sister, Myrtle H. (Setchell) Hitchins of Peru.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Barbara Louise Wiedenmeier in 1995; one son, David LeRoy Heagy in 2017; and two brothers, William “Bill” M. Setchell and Floyd D. Setchell.

Ruth graduated from Mendota High School in 1936. After she and Bill married, she was happy to be a wife, homemaker and mother to three sons and one daughter. She later worked for the school district in Ashland, Wis., where she was the head dietician in the kitchen for 22 years before retiring in 1995. She was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Ashland, Wis., where the couple lived and raised their family. She lived in the same house in Ashland for nearly 60 years.

In 2007, Ruth’s sons moved her to Bend, Ore., where she resided at Whispering Winds Retirement Home for 10 years. She then lived for a while with her son, David and his wife, Barbara in Redmond, Ore. In June 2017, she moved to Tangent, Ore. to reside with her son, Ronald and his wife, Betty. While in Tangent, she attended Peace Fellowship in Shedd, Ore. with Ronald and Betty. In October 2018, Ruth celebrated her 100th birthday with a wonderful birthday party with her family and friends at Peace Fellowship. She continued to enjoy life, family and friends, as well as the flowers and birds in all the seasons, and loved being outdoors. She recently celebrated her 101st birthday and enjoyed having cake with family and friends once more. She leaves a loving legacy of her Christian faith to many.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Salvation Army.
