MENDOTA - The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that the U.S. 34-BNSF Railway Company grade crossing on U.S. 34 (Sixth Avenue) in Mendota will be closed for approximately five days beginning on Monday, Sept. 17. The closing will allow the BNSF Railway Company to repair the crossing.
During the repair period, traffic will be directed to proceed as follows:
U.S. 34 eastbound traffic will proceed south on U.S. 52/IL 251 (13th Avenue) to Fifth Street; east on Fifth Street to Sixth Avenue; then north on Sixth Avenue back to U.S. 34.
U.S. 34 westbound traffic will proceed south on Sixth Avenue to Fifth Street; west on Fifth Street to U.S .52/IL 251 (13th Avenue); then north on US 52/IL 251 back to U.S. 34.
Drivers are reminded to please slow down and use extreme caution while driving through all work zones.
