ROCHELLE – Rochelle came out of the gates swinging and never let up for four quarters in posting a 58-40 triumph over Mendota in a nonconference varsity boys’ basketball game on Jan. 6 at Rochelle.
The Hubs doubled up the score on Mendota, 18-9, after the opening stanza and carried a 29-22 advantage to intermission. The Trojans fell behind by double digits (44-33) after three periods and Rochelle pulled away in the fourth.
Kaine Pizano-Olson poured in 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace the Trojans. Preston O’Sadnick supplied nine points and nine rebounds, while Bryson Prusator chipped in with eight markers.
Neither team shot the ball well, with the Trojans hitting 31 percent of their field goal attempts and 29 percent of their free throws. Rochelle shot 30 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the line. Mendota (6-11) outrebounded the Hubs, 41-33, and committed a staggering 29 turnovers compared to just 11 for Rochelle.
