MENDOTA - Robert W. Sondgeroth, 90, of Mendota passed away Jan. 14, 2021 at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center. He died, in part, from a broken heart having lost his wife of 64 years only seven weeks to the day of his passing.

Private Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Church with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Mendota V.F.W. 4079. Pallbearers will be Andy Sondgeroth, Patrick, Dan Cashner, Stephen Cashner, Josh Randolph and Joel McComber. Wasmer Funeral Home is privileged to assist the family.

Bob was born Nov. 12, 1930 in Mendota to Charles and Katherine (Walzer) Sondgeroth, one of eight children. He married the love of his life, Mary Kathryn Schultz in Ohio on April 7, 1956.

Survivors include one son, John (Patricia) Sondgeroth of Mendota; two daughters, Susan (Jeffrey) Spanier of Mendota and Rosemary Cashner of Chicago; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clifford (Geraldine) Sondgeroth of Mendota and David (JoAnne) Sondgeroth of Mendota.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary on Nov. 26, 2020; one son, Kevin on Nov. 27,1980; one granddaughter, Katie Sondgeroth on Feb. 18, 2019; two brothers, Lester Sondgeroth and Gene Sondgeroth; three sisters, Bernice Corrigan, Rita Miller and Pearl Blair; his parents and stepfather, William Haub.

Bob served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a self-employed farmer his entire life. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus Post 2090, Mendota Elks Lodge 1212, Catholic War Veterans Post 1229, and Mendota Moose Post 714. He was a board member on both the Rural Electric Co-op and Mendota Farmers Co-op for many years. He was a devoted lifetime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church.
