EARLVILLE - Robert “Bob” VonSeggern, 81, of Earlville passed away Nov. 23, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville with Rev. Tammy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Precinct Cemetery in Earlville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville.
Bob was born Jan. 10, 1936 on the family farm in Scribner, Neb. to Ralph and Elsie (Schafer) VonSeggern. He married Maurene S. Kempson on Feb. 21, 1962 in DeKalb.
Survivors include his wife of Earlville; one daughter, Barb Hake of Sheridan; one son, Steve (Joy) VonSeggern of Rochelle; four grandchildren, Hailee Hake of Earlville, Amanda (Rob) Nanzer of Earlville, Jessie (Dana) Sexton of Rochelle and Katie Sexton of Freeport; three great-grandchildren, Jesse, Jerry and Rylee; one brother, Ronald (Jan) VonSeggern of Keaney, Neb.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Brianna; and one sister, Ruth Parrish.
Bob was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, where he was very active. He taught confirmation classes and was on the church council. He also coached little league. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as an agent telegrapher and later was a foreman at Manley Brothers-Technisand in Troy Grove. He enjoyed fishing, his gardens of roses and vegetables, and watching Nebraska football and the Cubs. He liked visiting casinos and his competitive spirit came through when playing board games and cards.
