Robert C. Bumba

SALINAS, Calif. – Robert Carlyle Bumba, 83, of Salinas, Calif., died June 5, 2022 after a three-month battle with cancer.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. outdoors, at the family home.

Bob was born in December 1938 in Chicago. He married Kalah Renwick of Ottawa. The couple moved to San Francisco, then Carmel, Calif., then Salinas, Calif. They have two daughters, Brandy and Brielle.

He had three brothers and a sister. He was preceded in death by both parents, Edward and Alicia Bumba, a brother Richard, and his sister Donna.

His family moved to Mendota when he was 14 years old. His first job was working for the Hunky Dory Dairy when he was in the eighth grade. And they let him drive the truck.

Bob began his love for athletics at age 9 as a baseball catcher. In high school, he was the football co-captain with Bill Brown. The University of Marquette granted Bob a full football scholarship in Milwaukee, Wis. Unfortunately, the university had to drop its football program, but Bob was recruited to Florida by a farm team of the Cleveland Indians. He eventually enrolled at the University of Illinois where he had the honor of catching baseballs for a Big Ten team and could live at the Baseball House. He majored in Economics in the Business School and graduated with a BS in 1964.

Bob has always been in sales. He has been a Real Estate Broker for 50 years. He was also a member of the Salinas Jaycees, and mentored young boys in Little League.
