PERU - Rita V. Happ, 91, of Peru died Jan. 12, 2019 at Manor Court of Peru.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at St. Valentine Church, Peru with Monsignor Richard Soseman officiating. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Peterstown. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday the church. Ptak Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.
Pallbearers will be James and Thomas Sondgeroth, Joseph and William Happ, Karen Dunne and Judy Happ.
Rita was born Jan. 15, 1927 in Mendota to Peter and Mary (Henkel) Happ.
She is survived by 37 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Catherine Sondgeroth and Cecelia Stevenson; five brothers, Gilbert, Florian, Leo, Raymond and Edmund Happ; and two nieces.
Rita worked at Westclox for 29 years and then at the Cookie Kingdom in Oglesby for three years before retiring from Heritage Manor. She was a member of St. Valentine Church, Peru, the St. Valentine Parish Family Circle Club, Catholic Daughters of America, IVCH Auxiliary and the Westclox Quarter Century Club. She also volunteered at the IVCH gift shop for many years. She loved to travel and was able to visit all but four states, as well as seven foreign countries and numerous islands. She loved to read, crochet and play cards. Rita was very devoted to her family and her church.
