MENDOTA – The Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the 71st Annual Sweet Corn Festival, which will be held Aug. 9-12, has announced that preparations are being finalized for the 2018 Sweet Corn Festival Tennis Tournament. OSF Saint Paul Medical Center will sponsor the tournament.
The Sweet Corn Festival Tennis Tournament will offer Junior and Adult Divisions, with the juniors playing on Friday, Aug. 10 and adults playing on Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sunday, Aug. 12.
The Mendota Chamber has announced the competition will be a first round consolation draw, so everyone will be able to play a minimum of two matches. Juniors will now play an 8-game pro set no “ad”, and adults a 10-game pro set with ad, championship two or three sets. All events are a blind draw.
The Junior events are: 13-under singles (boys and girls may play each other depending upon the number of registrants for this category); 17-under singles (B & G) and doubles (B & G). Just a reminder you can only play in one singles bracket 13 & under or 17 & under.
Adults are competing in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Adult doubles and mixed doubles are on Saturday, Aug. 11. Adult singles will be held Sunday, Aug. 12.
All matches of this year’s tournament will again be played at the Mendota High School tennis courts on the high school grounds on U.S. 52 north of town.
Entry forms may be picked up at the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce office or by visiting sweetcornfestival.com.
The entry deadline is Monday, Aug. 6 by 4 p.m. All players registering by the Monday, Aug. 6 deadline will receive a Sweet Corn Festival Tennis T-shirt.
