MENDOTA – On Oct 31 at 8:44 p.m., the Mendota Police Department received a report of three motorcycles traveling west on U.S. 34 from I-39 at a high rate of speed.
A Mendota officer witnessed a traffic violation on one of the motorcycles at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and 12th Street. When the officer activated the emergency lights on the squad, the motorcycle accelerated and began to flee from the officer.
The fleeing motorcycle committed several traffic violations and left the city limits going northbound on Route 251 at over 100 miles per hour. Officers pursued the motorcycle into Lee County and eventually the pursuit was terminated.
The Mendota Police Department is reviewing video surveillance from the pursuit and continuing to investigate this incident. If anyone has information as to the identity of this individual, they are asked to call the Mendota Police Department at (815) 539-9331. Any information given can be anonymous.
