MENDOTA – A Mendota man riding a bicycle was arrested for a drug offense at 11:19 a.m. Nov. 15.
Ryan P. McCarthy, 35, of 111 S. 13th Ave., B-18, Mendota, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (heroin) after police officers initiated a traffic stop while McCarthy was riding a bicycle at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and 12th Street. McCarthy was originally stopped for a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
Officers were further provided intelligence information from the TRIDENT drug task force stating that McCarthy was highly likely to be in possession of narcotics. As a result of the stop and following a voluntary consent to search, police officers found McCarthy to be in possession of 13 tins of purported heroin and approximately one gram of pure heroin.
The subject was transported to the LaSalle County Jail for an arraignment.
