PERU - Rural King of Peru recently joined a historic Illinois Valley cancer campaign by becoming a Signature Level sponsor of The Relay For Life of Upper Illinois Valley “March To A Million.” The one-time campaign aims to break the $1 million mark in conjunction with the event’s 10th year anniversary in July of 2019.
In addition to their sponsorship, Rural King established an employee-based Relay For Life team and welcomed March To A Million volunteers to staff the store’s customer appreciation free hot dog day on Nov. 3. Volunteers distributed information about free supports available to local residents from The American Cancer Society and information about Relay For Life and The March To A Million campaign.
“Rural King is dedicated to our community and customers, supporting many local causes,” said Shelly Pitte, administrative coordinator at Peru Rural King. “Too many people are affected by cancer, so we support the way the American Cancer Society provides both research to fight the disease, as well as free patient care and support services to people right here in the Illinois Valley.”
Area residents, businesses, and organizations can donate, learn about the campaign, or sign up to participate at www.1mil.org. Cancer information and access to free services and supports to any Illinois Valley community member are available 24/7 in any language at 1-800-ACS-2345 or at www.cancer.org. The event's website is www.relayforlife.org/uivil.
