PAW PAW – The Paw Paw Village Board met on May 9 to discuss several topics.

The new safety fence has been installed in Rogers Park, thanks to the Paw Paw Endowment Fund, the Lions Club, and Erv Safranek.

There was a determination that there is no distinction between a temporary and permanent fence. A fence must have a permit before installation. This requires an inspection by the zoning officer to make sure the fence meets all material requirements and is laid out according to the ordinance.

A local resident inquired about having his property rezoned from agriculture to commercial. Village will take that under consideration.

A resident requested a variance for putting an addition onto his garage.

A resident inquired about replacing dangerous sidewalks near Flagg and Wiley Streets, and improving the parkway for parking.

The Liquor Store requested permission to have a street dance and beer garden the Friday and Saturday before Labor Day from 6 p.m. to midnight, and have a beer garden open Sunday afternoon, Sept. 2 from 3-6 p.m.

A reminder is sent to citizens that ATVs (“four-wheelers”) are not allowed to be driven on Village streets or by unlicensed drivers. Golf carts and Utility Terrain Vehicles must comply with State of Illinois statutes. These vehicles must include, among other things: headlights, taillights, turn signals, seatbelts, brakes, reflectorized slow-moving vehicle warning devices in the front and rear, rearview mirror and may not go over 25 mph on city streets. The driver must have a valid driver’s license, proof of liability insurance, and a Village of Paw Paw Permit. They can only be parked in the Community Center parking lot and not on Chicago Road. They must not be over 2,000 pounds, or 64” in width. Maximum occupancy is one person per bucket seat, or two people only per bench seat. ATVs may not be run on city streets. Any failure to abide by this ordinance is subject to fines of up to $500.

On Labor Day there will be no parking allowed on Chicago Road.

The Village is considering decommissioning the recycling dumpster. Up until now, there was no charge for the recycling pick-up. Republic Garbage Collection Services has stated they will now begin charging $170 per emptying. All Village houses have been provided with a large recycling container, and additional ones may be purchased from Republic. Citizens are urged to continue recycling, using their curb-side pick-up.
