MENDOTA - Paul R. Joerger, 89, of Mendota passed away Aug. 29, 2017 at Heritage Health, Mendota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1 at Holy Cross Church with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota with full military rites by Mendota V.F.W. Post 4079. Pallbearers will be Andy Sondgeroth, Peter Herman, Dick Gansemer, Leo Sondgeroth, Patrick Sondgeroth and Leo Joerger. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31 at the Schwarz Funeral Home.
Paul was born Sept. 10, 1927 in Mendota to Lawrence and Julia (Jones) Joerger. He married Margaret M. “Marge” Sondgeroth on June 6, 1950 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. She preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2006.
Survivors include five daughters, Sister Mary Paulette Joerger O.P. of Rantoul, Sister Marian Joseph Joerger O.P. of Marian High School, Chicago Heights, Sister Anne Marie Joerger O. Cist. of Prairie du Sac, Wis., Patricia (John) Sondgeroth of Mendota and Sheila (Martin) Herman of Reynolds; three grandchildren, Andy (Jill) Sondgeroth, Katie Sondgeroth and Peter Herman; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond “Barney” (Kathy) Joerger of Mendota and William (Gloria) Joerger of Mendota; two sisters, Sister Mary Dominic O.P. and Sister Mary Concepta O.P., both of Springfield; and one sister-in-law, Jean Joerger of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, Sharon Joerger; three brothers, Fr. Leo Joerger, Robert Joerger and Frank Joerger; one sister, Dorothy Fane; and his parents.
Paul served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a brakeman for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a devoted member of Holy Cross Church and the Knights of Columbus.
