MENDOTA – The Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce has been hosting the Annual Sweet Corn Festival for more than 70 years. Not a single person could have predicted the unparalleled situation in which we find ourselves in. Identical to every other year, the safety and well-being of every festival-goer is at the top of the Chamber’s list.
In this ever-changing time, the MACC Board of Directors has made the choice to still hold certain events of the Sweet Corn Festival as scheduled, and looks forward to welcoming back the thousands to enjoy the carnival and parade when the Sweet Corn Festival returns to the World’s Greatest Little City in 2021.
Queen Pageant
The Chamber wants to allow the young ladies the opportunity to have the chance to still carry on this time-honored tradition. The crowning of the 73rd Annual Sweet Corn Festival Queen will take place on Friday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. This event will be live-streamed on the Sweet Corn Festival Facebook page and the WGLC 100.1 FM Facebook page.
Mini Pageant
The crowning of the Sweet Corn Festival Mini King and Queen will take place on Friday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. Applications may be picked up at the MACC Office, 800 Washington St. or at www.sweetcornfestival.com.
50/50 Drawing
Sweet Corn Festival 50/50 Tickets will be sold until Sunday, Aug. 9, at 4 p.m. The drawing will take place in front of the MACC, 800 Washington St., at approximately 5 p.m. on Aug. 9. This drawing will also be live-streamed on the Sweet Corn Festival and WGLC 100.1 FM Facebook pages.
You can purchase tickets online at sweetcornfestival.com, in person at the MACC or from any Board of Director member or Ambassador member.
Sweet Corn Sales
The Chamber still plans on selling delicious sweet corn. Please follow the Chamber’s Facebook page to stay up-to-date on this information.
Festival Apparel
The Chamber has been working with 4M Graphix to provide everyone with the chance to purchase 73rd Annual Sweet Corn Festival apparel. Orders will be taken starting Friday, July 10. You will be able to purchase shirts one of two ways: in person at the MACC Office or at www.sweetcornfestival.com.
