MENDOTA - Everyone is invited to come and take a stroll along the newly installed Summer Reading Club outdoor StoryWalk at the Graves-Hume Public Library in Mendota. StoryWalk is a program that encourages reading, physical activity and family bonding by reading and walking together on the library’s front lawn.

Each week there will be a new story displayed to go along with the Summer Reading theme, “Investigate & Read!” During the week of July 13, the featured book will be “Little Owl’s Day” by Diva Srinivasan. The following week, July 20, will be “Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister.

The library is pleased to offer this wonderful, free opportunity to the entire community. Everyone is encouraged to visit the library grounds and enjoy the weather while reading a story. The stories will begin by the front doors of the library building at the number one post.

StoryWalk was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt. and developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, Kellogg-Hubbard Library and adapted by Graves-Hume Public Library Children’s Administrator Carolynn Ohlendorf. “I love the idea of reading and being outdoors. So why not bring that all together!” Ohlendorf said. “We wanted to do something special for this year’s Summer Reading Club. I think this is a great way to enjoy reading and social distancing. I encourage all ages to enjoy the walk around the library.”
