OREGON – A second-half scoring surge by Oregon erased a sizeable Mendota lead and the Hawks went on to down the Trojans, 48-40, in Big Northern Conference varsity boys’ basketball action on Feb. 2 at Oregon.
The Trojans held a 10-9 advantage after the opening quarter and then increased the margin to 22-13 at the break. But Oregon’s offense woke up in the second half and Mendota’s went dormant in the fourth quarter as the Hawks outscored the Trojans, 18-5, in the final stanza to pull out the win.
Emiliano Arteaga drilled four three-pointers on his way to 14 points to pace the Trojans. Joel Escatel chipped in with nine tallies.
Mendota dropped to 3-20 overall and 0-6 in league play.
