MENDOTA – Oregon scored three different ways en route to a 24-2 win over Mendota in freshman-sophomore football action on April 5 at the MHS field.
The Hawks got on the board at the 4:59 mark of the first quarter when they recovered a Trojan fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. A successful two-point run made it 8-0.
With 1:36 left in the opening stanza, Oregon intercepted a Mendota pass and returned it 71 yards for a TD, followed by another two-point run to go up 16-0.
Oregon completed its scoring early in the second period on a 24-yard touchdown run and it made good on its third two-point run to forge ahead 24-0.
The Trojans avoided being shut out when their defense tackled an Oregon ball carrier in the end zone for a safety with 5:53 left in the game.
The combined offensive output for both teams totaled just 92 yards – 45 for Mendota and 47 for Oregon.
Isaac Smith rushed nine times for 26 yards for the Trojans (0-2) and Justin Randolph completed one pass for 14 yards, to Ryne Strouss.
