MENDOTA - Registration for Operation Elf Action, formerly Mendota Toys for Tots, will begin this month. This annual program, under the guidance of the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and Community Health Partnership of Illinois, is asking local families that could use some help this Christmas with toys and/or clothing for their children to contact the Community Health Partnership (CHP) of Illinois at 1009 Main St., Mendota. If you know of a local family that could use some help, please let them know of this program as well.
In order to qualify, a family must live within the Mendota School District which means their school age children attend Mendota schools or be eligible to attend Mendota schools. Pre-school children from the Mendota area are also eligible. The family must have a State of Illinois Medicaid Card, which lists the children, and a parent must register in person at the CHP office in Mendota.
Registration will take place only on the following Thursdays: Oct. 18, Oct. 25 and Nov. 15 from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Nov. 8 from 2-7 p.m. In addition, CHP of Illinois will also offer free wellness checks of glucose and blood pressure as well as registration for their clinic.
For any questions, the CHP office can be reached by calling (815) 539-6124, ext.235 or call the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce at (815) 539-6507.
