Oil company requests variance for taller sign in Mendota

City council approves date/location of fireworks to celebrate Independence Day

MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council handled several items of business at its Feb. 3 regular meeting. Alderman Bill Hunt served as vice mayor in the absence of Mayor David Boelk.

Alderman John Hessenberger presented a request from Beck Oil Company for a sign height variance for a new high-rise sign at Beck’s I-39 location. The request will be sent to the Zoning Board for its consideration at a meeting set for Monday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m.

Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick informed the council of two requests from the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce. One request is to use the corner of Main and Meriden streets for the Chamber’s annual tag day for fireworks on Saturday, June 20. The second request is to use Lake Mendota Park for the annual fireworks celebration on Saturday, June 27. Both requests were approved by the council.

Alderman Kyle Kim told the council of two recent events held at the Mendota Civic Center. The 14th annual Daddy-Daughter Dance was held on Friday, Jan. 31 with 175 young ladies and their special guests in attendance. Then on Saturday, Feb. 1, a Mother-Son Dance took place with 50 young men and their guests in attendance.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
