OTTAWA – Ottawa Concert Association will present Swing Your Strings on April 27 at the Central Intermediate School Auditorium in Ottawa. The concert will start at 7 p.m.
Douglas Cameron - violinist, vocalist, guitarist, songwriter - is the featured performer in this exciting duo. Cameron performs hits of the Big Band Era with a blend of swing and charisma like no other performer. His smooth vocals electrify the listeners by evoking the spirit of such talents as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Cameron has been thrilling audiences for over 25 years with his incredible vocals and versatility. He grew up in South Carolina listening to the sounds of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey.
Cameron takes tried and true Suzuki songs and adds alternative styles, including jazz, hip-hop, Celtic, country, gospel, swing, rock and other influences, providing an exciting new way for Suzuki players to learn how to improvise and play rhythmically. He has published several volumes of Suzuki instruction books, a project that has been endorsed by The International Suzuki Association.
Cameron has long been a favorite on jazz radio internationally, and is widely considered one of the true innovators of jazz violin. He is well known for his dynamic performances and trademark blue electric violin. He has 10 CD’s to his credit, which feature many of his own compositions. He has recorded and performed with a wide range of artists, including Doc Severinsen, Tom Petty, Cher, The Allman Brothers, Dionne Warwick, Tony Bennett and renowned producer David Foster, as well as recording for numerous motion pictures and commercials. His inspiring concert with The Kansas State University Orchestra was chosen for a PBS special.
