New President/CEO named at Chamber

Posted

MENDOTA – Shelby Weide was named the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 9. She takes over the position from Kate Fox, who was the President/CEO since Dec. 1, 2018. Fox resigned to take a job out of state.

Weide joined the Chamber of Commerce in July 2018 as the administrative assistant. She replaced long-time administrative assistant Roberta Friedlein.

“I am really excited with my new position at the Mendota Chamber and I am looking forward to going out into our business community and getting to know our members,” Weide said.

The year 2020 has disrupted businesses and lives throughout the world, and for the first time since its inception, what would have been the 73rd annual Sweet Corn Festival this year was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Chamber was also forced to cancel some of its other annual events, but Weide is crossing her fingers that things will be different next year.

“2020 has been a crazy year for the Chamber with the cancellation of so many events,” she said. “Looking at 2021 just around the corner, the Chamber is hopeful that we will be able to do the things we have all missed this year, including the Annual Sweet Corn Festival, fly-in breakfast and two golf outings.”

Weide is a lifelong resident of Mendota and graduated from Mendota High School. Before her employment at the Mendota Chamber, she was a teacher’s aide at Blackstone School and manager of the Mendota Moose Lodge.
