MENDOTA – The Mendota High School Chapter of the National Honor Society held its 6th Annual Charity Dodgeball Tournament on Monday, Oct. 30. Proceeds totaling $121 and 133 pounds of non-perishable food items were donated to the Mendota Area Christian Food Pantry.
Participating teams donated $20, or $2 per player, and one non-perishable food item per player. Spectators were asked to provide either one non-perishable food item or a cash donation.
Five teams of 8-10 Mendota High School students participated in a Double Elimination tournament, which was won for the second consecutive year by a group of sophomore and junior boys calling themselves the “Choppers.”
National Honor Society members worked on advertising the tournament throughout the school, signing up teams during lunch periods, and officiating, announcing, and clock-keeping during the tournament.
National Honor Society members include President Sam Becker, Vice-President Marie Barnickel, Secretary Ben Bokus, Treasurer Morgan Marquis, and members Rutilio Arteaga, Anthony Aughenbaugh, Grace Brandner, Jessie Dooley, Iris Espinoza, Madeline Hoelzer, Natalie Landgraf, Gabriela Nanez, Gabrielle Peasley, Bryson Prusator, and Cheyenne West.
