FRANKLIN GROVE - The public is invited to the Chaplin Creek Muzzleloaders’ open house on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Chaplin Creek Village in Franklin Grove. The event will include a period camp to visit and observe how our ancestors survived and see the implements they used. The Blacksmith shop will be open with demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday. Masks must be worn at the event.

The sixth annual “Pumpkin Shoot” will take place on Oct. 18 at 11:30 a.m. Pumpkins are grown at the range, harvested and then lined up to see who can make a “face” on the pumpkin. The public is welcome to come and observe the marksmanship. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place for the best face shot into the pumpkins.

The event will also include a silent auction on various primitive paraphernalia and a 50/50 cash raffle. Among the items to be auctioned will be period muzzleloading accouterments and other muzzleloading era items. Bids may be submitted by e-mail to mrahk@comcast.net. The 50/50 drawing and the silent auction will be held after the pumpkin shoot, around 1 p.m. on Oct. 18.
