MENDOTA – Michael and Barbara Bokus will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 15. Michael and the former Barbara Lair were married on Feb. 15, 1969 at First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. The wedding was officiated by Methodist minister, Rev. Carl Hearn, and Catholic priest, Fr. James Swaner. Through a special dispensation, the Catholic priest was able to officiate the wedding ceremony at the Protestant church. This was the first time this occurred in Ottawa and the second in the country.
They couple moved to Mendota in 1976 where they raised their family and Mike opened his accounting and later law practice. They have four children, Michael (Kaela) Bokus of Mendota, Abby (Michael Carlson) Bokus of Normal, Andrew (Bonnie) Bokus of Normal, and Sarah (Ryan) Coss of Mendota. They also have 12 grandchildren: Jake, Ben, Calvin, Anna, Andrew, Lily, Ella, Wilson, Ruby, Collin, Lila, and Sam.
They will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner planned by their children.
