MENDOTA – A police officer promotion was among the items handled at the Mendota City Council meeting on April 5.

Mendota Police Department officer Joshua Sarver was sworn in to the position of sergeant. Sarver has been a member of the department for four years. He will be assigned to the afternoon watch. Also, Sarver will be the department’s new K-9 handler and will soon attend training with his new K-9 officer in Iowa.

In other news, the council approved a request from the Mendota High School band director to hold an ice cream social/jazz band event on June 21 in Veterans Park. The event will result in the temporary closure of Veterans Park, Veterans Way and a part of Sixth Street.

Finally, the council approved a three-year contract with Northern Illinois Ambulance Billing.

The next meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, April 19 at 5:30 p.m.
