LA MOILLE - Morry L. Schlegel, 79, of LaMoille passed away Sept. 14, 2021 at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Community United Methodist Church, LaMoille with Rev. David Jungnickel officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, LaMoille. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17 at the church. Lundquist-Merritt Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Morry was born Feb. 28, 1942 in Princeton to Harry and Della (Pinter) Schlegel. He married Diane Phillips on a very cold January day, Jan. 20, 1963.

Survivors include his wife of LaMoille; three daughters, Beth (Karl) Schultz and Jill (Brad) Snethen, both of Princeton and Amy Schlegel of Chicago; six grandchildren, Seth, Justine, Luke and Karlie Schultz and Brady and Adrienne Snethen; one sister, Myrna (Charles) Teauseau of Winterhaven, Fla.; one brother, Marlowe (Judy) Schlegel of Columbia, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Margo Phillips of LaMoille.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Bill Phillips.

Morry was raised on a farm in Spring Valley and graduated from Hall High School in 1959. He farmed all his life in Spring Valley and LaMoille and also worked for Van Orin Coop and Becker Auction Service and was a Funks seed corn dealer for many years. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church where he served on several committees, was a youth group leader, taught Sunday school and was in the dart ball league. He belonged to Kum Double. He served on the First State Bank board and Bureau County Pork Producers, was a Bureau County soil and water chairman and did a great deal of volunteering for water and soil. He also coached Pony League baseball in LaMoille.
