Yorkville scored a 3-2 triumph over the Mendota boys’ varsity tennis team on April 19 at the MHS courts.

Mendota got wins from Cameron Phalen and Blake Stamberger in singles, but dropped all three doubles matches.

The Trojans were fourth out of six teams in the Princeton Invitational on April 22.

Mendota scored 13 points to finish ahead of LaSalle-Peru (9) and St. Bede (8). Streator won the event with 19 points, edging Princeton by one. Pontiac placed third with 17 points.

Phalen took top honors at number one singles by winning all five of his matches. His match scores were 6-2, 6-2; 6-4, 6-3; 6-2, 6-2; 6-2, 6-4; and 6-4, 6-4.

Stamberger competed at number two singles for the Trojans and finished in fourth place. He won two of five matches.

In doubles action, Mendota’s number one team of Christian Salinas and Paco Romero took fourth place. They dropped their first three matches before coming back to win the final two.

Preston Lewis and Zach Rinaldo teamed up to play number two doubles for the Trojans and they finished sixth.

Mendota rolled over Rockford Lutheran, 5-0, on April 24 at the MHS courts.

Phalen and Stamberger won in singles play, while the doubles teams of Romero-Salinas, Lewis-Rinaldo and Perez-Cortez also won.
