MHS track teams encounter tough competition in Morris Invitational

SPRING VALLEY – Mendota’s girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed in the Rollie Morris Invitational on April 13 at Spring Valley.

The Lady Trojans finished seventh in the standings out of 12 teams with 40 points. Bureau Valley coasted to the top of the standings with 142 points, while Amboy-LaMoille was second with 75 points.

Mendota had a pair of second-place individual finishes. Lauren Schimmer was runner-up in the high jump at 4-6, while Devin Wade took second in the pole vault with a measurement of 7-0.

Mendota scored 30 points and finished eighth of 10 teams in the boys’ competition. The top two teams were Hall (120) and Streator (116).

Eddy Sandoval turned in Mendota’s best finish on the day, placing second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.52.
