MHS students to attend Boys & Girls State

MENDOTA – Three outstanding Mendota High School students have been selected to attend the 86th Annual Premier Boys State held at Eastern Illinois University in June. The program, sponsored by the American Legion, is designed to teach young men about voting and the election process in a democratic society. Over 750 11th-grade boys from around the state will attend the week-long leadership seminar.
Mendota High School students attending Boys State include Bryan Herrera, the son of Manuel and Andrea Herrera of Mendota, sponsored by Mendota Rotary; Logan Dewey, son of Heather Dewey of Mendota, sponsored by the American Legion; and Izaiah Nanez, son of Eloy Nanez and Christina Diaz of Mendota, sponsored by the Mendota Elks Lodge.
Two deserving Mendota High School students have been selected to attend the Illini Girls State held at Eastern Illinois University in June. The program, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, is designed to teach young women to understand and appreciate their roles as United States citizens. Approximately 600 11th-grade girls from around the state will attend the week-long leadership seminar.
Mendota High School students attending Girls State include Perla Lopez, daughter of Maria Toledo and Roberto Lopez of Mendota, sponsored by Mendota Rotary Club; and Natalia Salinas, daughter of Santos and Mayoli Salinas of Mendota, sponsored by the Mendota Elks Lodge.
