Rock Falls erupted to five first-inning runs and went on to a 6-1 triumph over Mendota in a Big Northern Conference varsity softball game on March 28 at Rock Falls.
Mendota scored what turned out to be its only run of the game in the top of the first when Morgan Marquis led off with a single and was driven in by Rylee Klema.
Rock Falls sent all nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and scored five times on five hits. It had three doubles and a triple in the frame.
The Rockets added a single tally in the fourth, while Mendota had only one baserunner get as far as third base over the final six innings.
Klema had a pair of singles for the Lady Trojans.
Klema went the distance in the circle and allowed seven hits, but only two after the opening inning. She struck out four and did not issue a walk.
Mendota lost for the first time in four league outings.

The Lady Trojans rolled to an 8-0 verdict over Princeton in a nonconference contest on April 1 at Strouss Park.
Mendota scored the only run it needed in the bottom of the first when Marquis walked to lead off the inning, stole second and scored on a single by Klema. Pinch runner Brittany Menzel came home to score later in the inning.
The same scenario occurred in the second when Larkin O’Donnell drew a two-out walk, swiped second base and came around to score on a single by Marquis to make it 3-0.
The scored remained that way until the fifth when Mendota added two more runs. Klema singled to drive in Marquis and Reiss Buettner, who both singled.
The Lady Trojans put the game away with three more tallies in the bottom of the sixth. After one out, Jessie Dooley and Brandy Delao had back-to-back singles. Marquis doubled to drive in one run and then Kianne Brown delivered a single to plate the final two runs of the game.
Mendota had a 13-hit attack, led by Marquis with two singles and a double. Klema and O’Donnell added two singles apiece.
Klema was masterful in the circle, allowing just three hits in the complete-game performance. She walked two and struck out 10 as the Lady Trojans improved to 4-3 on the season.
