MENDOTA – Mendota and Ottawa golfers not only battled each other, but the elements as well. High temperatures and gusty winds settled in over the Mendota Golf Club to help inflate each team’s scores. In the end, Ottawa came out a winner, 182-184, over the Trojans on Sept. 20.

MENDOTA – Mendota and Ottawa golfers not only battled each other, but the elements as well. High temperatures and gusty winds settled in over the Mendota Golf Club to help inflate each team’s scores. In the end, Ottawa came out a winner, 182-184, over the Trojans on Sept. 20.

Taylor Joyce recorded the low score for Mendota with a 43. He tied Ottawa’s T.J. McDonnell for medalist. Three Trojans checked in with 47s – Jack Beetz, Ethan Hanaman and Austin Robinson. Colton Scheppers (50) and Luke Ross (51) rounded out the Mendota lineup.

Mendota’s freshman-sophomore team shot a 219 to easily defeat Ottawa (260).

Aaron Reddin led the way for the Trojans with a 53. Shea Doughty was only one stroke back with a 54, while Mateo Escatel and Liam McGann each carded a 56. Kody Becket added a 59 for Mendota.

Mendota hosted its Modified Ryder Cup on Sept. 22 and the Trojans took third place in the team standings with a 244 score. Rock Falls won with 237 and LaSalle-Peru was second with 242.

The Trojan pairing of Taylor Joyce and Zeke Hessenberger finished in second place overall with a 75. They were edged by one stroke by Ian Roach and Ben Cyr of Putnam County. Also teaming up for Mendota were Robinson and Scheppers, who finished 12th with an 81, and Hanaman and Beetz, who were 18th with an 88.

Mendota had three pairs of junior varsity golfers that played in the event. They were Ross-Noah DeLong (103), Logan Brandner-Escatel (108) and Tristan Joyce-Lane Howard (117).

Other teams in the field were Ottawa (248), Princeton (252), Morris (259), St. Bede (262), Bureau Valley (265), Stillman Valley (272), Putnam County (274), Kewanee (324) and Mendota Junior Varsity (328).
